Elite Recovery, Explained
Most people arrive at this knowing they want a sauna, or a cold plunge, or both, and having no idea what actually goes into owning one. This page covers the fundamentals — what each thing is, what the equipment consists of, and what it will ask of your house.
Recovery is infrastructure you own, not an appointment you keep. Everything below is written from that angle.
The three elements
Heat, cold and light. Different equipment, different requirements, and they are usually bought in the wrong order.
Saunas
Two families that share a name and almost nothing else. A traditional sauna heats the air — a heater warms a bed of stones, the stones radiate, and the room comes up to temperature. Water on the stones produces a burst of steam. An infrared sauna heats you directly through emitters, so the air stays comparatively cool and sessions run longer at a lower temperature.
The equipment is a cabin, a heater, and a control. On most traditional saunas the heater is sold separately from the cabin and frequently ships from a different warehouse. Outdoor cabins almost always arrive flat-packed and are built on site.

Cold plunge and cold water immersion
A cold plunge is a tub of chilled water you sit in. The practice is simple; the ownership is where the detail lives. The single most common surprise is that the tub and the chiller are usually two separate purchases — plenty of tubs ship with no cooling at all, and an unchilled tub is a barrel of water you have to keep buying ice for.
A chiller is a refrigeration unit sized in BTU per hour. It needs enough capacity to pull your water volume down and hold it there, and it needs filtration — not optional, because without it the heat exchanger clogs. Budget for water treatment and filter changes the same way you would for any body of standing water.

Red light panels
Panels of LEDs emitting at specific wavelengths, typically in the red and near-infrared bands. The specifications that distinguish one panel from another are irradiance — power density, measured in mW/cm² and only meaningful when the measuring distance is stated — the wavelengths included, and the physical size and coverage of the panel.
If a panel is going inside a sauna it needs to be rated for the temperature and sealed appropriately; a standard panel is not built for a 190°F room. Look for a real spectral report rather than a photograph of a light meter, and check for third-party electrical listing.

Putting them in one room
Why the order you buy in matters more than the brands you buy.
Alternating between heat and cold in the same session — commonly called contrast — is the reason most people end up wanting both. That is a practice, and practices have physical requirements: two units in proximity, drainage for one and a dedicated circuit for the other, and enough floor area to move between them safely while wet.
The expensive mistake is buying sequentially. A sauna bought this year without leaving room for a plunge next year usually means the plunge ends up somewhere inconvenient, on a second electrical run, with a second delivery problem. Specifying the room first and the equipment second costs nothing extra and avoids all of that.
That is the whole idea behind a suite: one room, planned once, rather than three products bought separately and made to coexist.
